Biotechnology is the most inventive field of technology at Austrian universities

The publication of the Austrian Research and Technology Report imports an overall positive image. In the statistical annex there can be found sectorial data on chemicals, pharmaceuticals and plastics, which also comprise biotech products. The report was compiled by WIFO, Joanneum Research and the Austrian Research Centers with the active involvement of Statistics Austria.

From the perspective of the ABI the most important conclusion of the report concerns the notification of inventions (patents) at Austrian Universities and ends in: "With nearly one third of all notifications biotechnology is significantly the most important field of technology, followed by chemical engineering and physics (16 and 13 %, respectively)."

This includes, that the efforts of recent years, to emphasize the aspects of explaitation of research results at universities were very fruitful in regard to biotechnology.
